Nepal Telecom, the state-owned public telecom service provider establishes optical fiber backhaul link to the remote & mountain tourist hub district of Solukhumbu. This district is home to Mt. Everest & several other peaks, tourist areas. The connection of the fiber link will bring huge improvements in transmission network & connectivity for NTC mobile and broadband services in the Himalayan district. Let’s learn more about this fiber link below.
Nepal Telecom’s Optical Fiber Link to Solukhumbu
Nepal Telecom (NTC) connected the optical fiber having 10Gbps capacity to Pattale Station at 3000 meters of Solukhumbu on October 28th. Patale lies in the Solu region of the Solukhumbu district.
Areas like Everest Base Camp, Namche, Lukla, Khumjung, Salleri, Phaplu can now have better access to telephones, 4G network & high-speed internet. Also, the Patale Station can now communicate better with the towers of nearby Khotang & Okhaldhunga districts. This ensures better flow of traffic between the remote regions for calls & internet.
Nepal Telecom Okhaldhunga Office Incharge, Senior Er. Dinesh Chandra Panthy has stated, “The optical fiber expansion in Solukhumbu has now enabled better connectivity in most of the popular areas like Lukla, Namche, Salleri, Phaplu, etc.” He further added about the benefits of this expansion to various remote regions of Solukhumbu.
According to him, both fiber & electricity access expansion works commenced some months ago. But due to some technical issues, the electricity supply connection is taking more time for now. The fiber expansion has finished already. The remaining work for the electricity supply connection will also finish soon. Once both the electricity and fiber are connected, quality service will be continuous and sustainable for the long term.
Benefits
Despite being a mountain tourism hub, Solukhumbu was lacking a proper network for calls & reliable high-speed internet. This optical fiber link milestone is now facilitating improved network & connectivity in the rural areas of Solukhumbu. The people in the district will be able to enjoy high-speed internet via a 4G network, clear HD calls with VoLTE. Also, broadband internet service via 4G and Ntc fiber net will improve.
For the tourism sector, this is going to be an advantage for reliable live streaming, vlogging, etc, and multimedia sharing. This is indeed an important achievement by Nepal Telecom for the Solukhumbu district and the entire Everest base camp region.
