NTC has appointed Pratibha Vaidya as its Acting Managing Director. Vaidya who serves as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the company is handed the new duty by the MoCIT.

Nepal Telecom (NTC) is still on a quest for its new MD (Managing Director) on a permanent basis. However, the search for it has incurred legal objections which are likely going to delay the arrival of the new incumbent. In it, Mrs. Vaidya is appointed the acting NTC MD after following a secretary-level decision by the MoCIT (Ministry of Communication and Information Technology).

Mrs. Vaidya has been serving as the CTO but will now lead the company as its acting MD from today (2078-Poush-19).

Upon her appointment, Vaidya said she would diligently commit herself to the role. She said she would expect “continuous cooperation from directorates, departments, staffs, and trade unions.”

The tenure of the current MD Dilliram Adhikari is expiring on Poush 22. Adhikari was appointed as MD of NTC in 2019 and will bow out after 3 years of service in the post.

NTC’s MD Search Delayed by Legal Disputes

NTC announced the vacancy for the new MD at the company last month. However, its search for the new incumbent has suffered a delay after the Supreme Court struck it with an interim order. The verdict came after NTC drew two separate cases against it at the Court of Justice by NTC’s former employees.

NTC’s former Deputy Manager Surendraman Singh, and Rajendra Kumar Pokharel lodged two separate cases at the Supreme Court and High Court respectively. The controversy over the reduced age bar to become the next MD had dissatisfied sections at the company.

In its verdict, the Court has decreed NTC to halt its process and demanded a show ‘cause notice’. In addition, the Court has also asked the operator not to implement the recently amended MD Appointment and Facility Directives 2078.

Meanwhile, NTC has received applications from 9 candidates to serve as the new MD for the company. Visit our post to learn about the candidates in more detail.

For now, Pratibha Vaidhya, being the senior-most Director preside over the role of MD and lead the company.
