Google has launched the Switch to Android app that will help users move their data from iOS to Android. The app allows wireless transfer of user data while making a switch from an iOS to an Android phone.
However, the app is ‘unlisted’. It means, the app is not available to download from the App Store. Google has used a soft launch feature and the app is accessed only via a link.
Google has not made any statement about the app yet. It could be due to the fact that the app is still not conspicuous on the Apps Store. However, it does good work to make it easy for those wanting to move away from an iPhone.
So far, the Switch to Android app is available in a select few markets such as the US. We expect increased availability soon.

Move files wirelessly with the Switch to Android app
Switch to Android works wirelessly. So, you don’t need to bother with what Google calls ‘fussy cables’ and connecting both phones physically. In a few clicks, you can move files without any physical accessories and be techy about it. With this app, you can migrate your contacts, photos, videos, and calendar over to Android phones.
The app tells users to turn off iMessage on iPhones so that they would get text messages transferred to their new Android phones. Likewise, it instructs that app users connect with iCloud to move photos and videos over to an Android device. Do read: Android Vs iPhone: Which One Is Better For You?
Moving files from Android to Android is easy. As the platform is similar, users can easily migrate their data using a cable or by connecting through WiFi. There are several apps to facilitate this transfer too. However, doing so from iOS to Android has been very difficult.
Apple users first sync their files to iTunes and sync over to Android. Another option they resort to is first uploading their files to Google Drive and then restoring each file manually. Switch to Android will handle the job wirelessly and securely.
The only limitation is that it doesn’t help users with moving apps. It could be due to security issues and the incompatible nature of apps between the two dominant mobile Operating Systems.

Similar app iPhone lovers
In contrast, iPhone has a similar app that allows users to migrate their files from Android to iPhone. Apple launched the app Move to iOS app in late 2015 which helps users transition from Android to an iOS smartphone. In this regard, Google took a bit longer to come up with a similar app. Likewise, Apple’s data mover app allows users to transfer contacts, media, mail accounts, etc. But just like Google’s, Move to iOS also doesn’t allow the transfer of apps.
