Private telecom operator Ncell Axiata has appointed Jabbor Kayumov as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) succeeding Andy Chong. He has officially taken his office on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. The company’s Board of Directors meeting held on May 09 appointed Mr. Jabbor as its new CEO and Managing Director (MD).
Jabbor succeeded Andy Chong and assumed his responsibilities on May 10. The outgoing CEO & MD Andy Chong will serve as the Axiata Group Chief Corporate Officer effective from 1 June 2023.
Mr. Jabbor brings almost 20 years of senior management in the telecommunications industry experience. He has served as the CEO of several companies under prominent telecom organizations such as Telia (previously TeliaSonera) and Vimpelcom (now VEON). Mr. Jabbor is a business leader with an excellent track record across multiple leading companies in the industry. Before joining Ncell, the incumbent worked as the CEO of Digicel Trinidad & Tobago followed by Digicel Jamaica until April 2023. In the Caribbean regions, he led a turnaround of business operations transitioning into becoming a digital operator.

Mr. Jabbor holds in-depth knowledge of the industry along with his successful track record in his role as the Chief Executive. For his diverse professional experience, he has been recognized for his exemplary work in people leadership, business improvements, digital, strategy, organizational design, and processes. He holds a Master’s in Economics from Khujand State University, Tajikistan.

Challenges
The newly-appointed CEO Jabbor Kayumov will have the challenge of maintaining Ncell as the dominant telecom service operator. At the moment, Ncell is seeking a 5G trial spectrum from NTA. Starting 5G trials, working on 4G expansion, improving revenue/profit, and ILD offset are among other ambitions.
The former Ncell CEO Andy Chong has been appointed as Ncell’s parent company Axiata Group’s Chief Corporate Officer (CCO).
Mr. Chong served for a total of over 6 years at Ncell starting as its CCO in 2016. He has worked at the top level at many international telecom companies.
