Apple has issued a caution to its iPhone users who might have a habit of falling asleep holding their phone when it is connected to a charger.
Releasing a set of guidance, the US phone maker directly stated that iPhones must be charged in conditions where there is enough space for ventilation. Included in the company’s online guide, the advisory suggested that the handsets must be on charge on flat surfaces such as tables.
The technology company stated that its device charging mechanism complies with all the safety standards but can still lead to fire risks if certain behaviors remain unchecked.
If you were less careful or less considerate about the way you charge your iPhone, these are the official suggestions by the company. Apple says that users must avoid keeping their iPhones on soft surfaces such as pillows or blankets on their bodies while charging.

Apple warns- Don’t sleep on your iPhone when it’s on charge
As earnest as it could get, Apple tells users that they should not sleep alongside an iPhone, power adapter, or a wireless charger while they are connected to a power source. The company told that devices must be kept in areas that are well-ventilated while on charge. “Take special care if you have a physical condition that affects your ability to detect heat against the body.”
Keep your iPhone, the power adapter, and any wireless charger in a well-ventilated area when in use or charging.
Apple issues warning to iPhone users on charging behavior
Apple adapters do comply with surface temperature limits for all countries. However, Apple suggests that a longer duration of contact with a warm surface can cause discomfort or injury. So, the company requests that users use “common sense” to avoid contact with their skin with an iPhone, power adapter, or a wireless charger when they are operating.

Charging generates heat
The advisory says that iPhones like any other device generate heat while charging. This heat needs to pass through open spaces. However, if the space is confining, there is a risk of burns or even fires. Apple warns that charging a phone in bed or keeping it on the pillow while it’s charging is an unsafe behavior.
In more general suggestions, Apple tells its users not to use power adapters in wet conditions such as in bathtubs, sinks, etc. Using wet hands to connect and disconnect power adapters is also a bad habit.
While this advisory is exclusively for iPhone users, it is also a general suggestion for all phone users. “Don’t sleep alongside your phone while it is charging.”
A Need to reconsider your charging behavior?
Many may fall asleep or keep their devices on charge overnight. This could lead to minor injuries or even burns. In the worst cases, batteries have exploded and claimed lives although such cases are very slim. So, if it’s the way you also charge your iPhone/smartphone, maybe you need to quit this behavior. However, prevention is always better than care.
Devices comply with charging safety standards, but they are not free of hazards. If you charge your iPhone/phones overnight and keep them on uneven surfaces, you might have to reconsider doing so.
