Huawei, the ASEAN Foundation, and the Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) have successfully hosted the Seeds for the Future (SFTF) Summit 2023 with the aim of strengthening the digital skills pipeline. Drive by the theme, “Connect, Cultivate, Contribute for Inclusive Digital Talent Growth in Asia-Pacific,”. The prominent event stressed the significant role the youth have in the digital revolution in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. The summit had the participation of 19 APAC nations.

In the event, 4 winners from Nepal are also participating in ‘Seeds For The Future Summit 2023’. The summit comprises various programs. This includes technology and cultural exchange programs, a visit to Huawei’s world-class R&D Center and headquarters, and an experience of traditional and modern China. Altogether, there are 91 participants from 19 countries in this flagship Huawei initiative.

Mr. Simon Lin, President of Huawei Asia Pacific, shared his delightful perspective on the event. Being consistent with the theme, he said:

“This is the third year for Huawei to host the Asia Pacific Seed for the Future Summit. Every year, we can see this program grow with something new, with more partners joining us. Meanwhile, three things remain unchanged: Partnership, Commitment, and Youth empowerment.”

If you were unaware, the Seeds for the Future is Huawei’s global flagship CSR for undergraduate students. In Nepal, the Chinese tech giant inaugurated the “Seeds” program in 2021 offering aspiring Nepali students major experience in their ICT career pursuits.

Huawei and ITU announce digital collaboration at the Seeds for the Future Summit 2023

One of the highlights of the summit was the partnership announcement between Huawei and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). Both entities will now work together focusing on six key areas of digital cooperation across the Asia Pacific. Similarly, both entities will join hands to work on:

  • ICT policy and regulation,
  • joint research,
  • inclusive infrastructure,
  • digital capacity-building,
  • girls and youth empowerment, and
  • digital practice-sharing.

Through this comprehensive collaboration, Huawei and ITU will join hands to contribute to the digital development of Asia-Pacific.

The prestigious event concluded with a panel discussion which was led by Dr. Piti Srisangnam, Executive Director of the ASEAN Foundation. Likewise, the panel had experts from the National University of Singapore (NUS), representatives from Huawei, and the Seeds for the Future participants. They discussed the intricacies of driving tomorrow’s leaders by bridging the gaps, enhancing their digital, and nurturing lifelong skills.
