Nepal Telecom (NTC), registered and also known as Nepal Doorsanchar Company Ltd. has celebrated its 20th anniversary today on 2080-Magh-22. To mark this glorious occasion, the government-backed company hosted ceremonies at its central office, provincial directorates, and other offices.
Ramkrishna Subedi, Secretary of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nepal Telecom presided over the ceremony held at the company’s central office today (Magh, 22).

Minister Rekha Sharma thanked Ntc employees
In the ceremony, the chief guest of the program, Honorable Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, thanked all the employees and related parties for their support in modernizing, developing, and modifying the services according to the needs of the consumers and providing services in all the local levels. She stressed the necessity to carry out plans and programs.
Discussing the progress of 19 model/sample districts with telecommunications services, infrastructure development, access, and expansion, Minister Sharma instructed to take necessary actions for significant improvement in services and increase the revenue in the coming days. Stating that the company’s programs reflect in realizing the government’s concept of Digital Nepal, Minister Sharma said that it is necessary to take the initiative to make a long-term business plan keeping in mind the company’s progress. Minister Sharma also instructed to mobilize the entire mechanism to maintain the company’s historical legacy and increase its income.
In the program, the MoCIT Secretary and Chairman of Ntc Board of Directors, Ramkrishna Subedi said that the company should continue to provide quality services while maintaining good corporate governance. He said that the company should be developed as a progressive organization by improving the decision-making process, working methods, and institutional structure while making the internal working environment agile.
NTA Acting Chairman praises Ntc and assures cooperation
Acting Chairman of Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) Nawaraj Adhikari mentioned that Nepal Telecom plays an important role in developing and expanding telecommunication services in Nepal. He expressed the commitment that along with the technology change, the company needs reforms in time and for this, cooperation, and coordination. Mr. Adhikari assured necessary facilitation from the regulatory body. Urging to pay attention to the coverage and quality of service, he also said that telecom workers should work together for this.
Shankar Lamichhane, a member of the board of directors (employee representative), expected the necessary support from the regulatory bodies including the MoCIT in the competitive environment to create the necessary policies for the company and keep the company as a leading telecommunications service provider. He also said that there is a need for unity among employees, managers, and policymakers to create a positive work environment.
Nepal Telecom MD Sangita Pahadi highlights progress at the 20th-anniversary ceremony
During the ceremony, Nepal Telecom MD Sangita Pahadi highlighted the company’s service expansion, and progress, and shared the plans for the future. She expressed her gratitude to the Nepali government agencies, regulatory agencies, the company’s customers, shareholders, suppliers, and other agencies and well-wishers for their support and goodwill in this long journey.
“I would like to express my gratitude on behalf of the company for the instructions received from the board of directors of the company, the sense of responsibility shown by the company’s employees, and the love and goodwill received from the customer base, in order to maintain the quality of the company’s services in order to maintain the quality of the company’s services even during the obstacles and difficult situations that have occurred in the past,” she added.
Then she pointed out the company’s progress, pointed out service expansion works, and shared future plans and priorities.
Past and present in summary
20 years ago when the company was established, Nepal Telecom had a 4.22 lakh customer base. This has increased to over 2.18 crore now with every part of the country having one or many Ntc services.
For e.g., Ntc 4G LTE has reached 77 districts. At the same time, Ntc FTTH service is available in 74 districts. Expansion of FTTH services has inspired steady growth in the company’s unique user base in recent years.
Nepal Telecom provides basic telephony, wireless GSM mobile, VSAT, internet/data, and other Value Added Services (VAS) to its customers. Additionally, Ntc has completed a 5G trial in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Birgunj. The company now requested the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) for more 5G equipment import. The company says that in the near future, it will actively work on 4G expansion as well as a 5G upgrade.
Progress stats
In fiscal year FY 2079/80, Nepal Telecom generated Rs 44.42 in total revenue while its profit stood at Rs 7.92 billion. Likewise, in the current fiscal year FY 2080/81 till Poush, the company drew in Rs 20.53 in revenue. In terms of the contribution to the government, the company posted Rs 28.43 in tax and other fees to the country. It’s expected that the figures will rise in the current fiscal year.
Nepal Telecom service expansion
Till the end of Mangsir 2080, Nepal Telecom had 2 crore, 18 lakh, 44 thousand, and 500 user base. Of all, 2 crore, 12 lakh, and 42 thousand are GSM users while PSTN service has 2.66 lakh subscribers. Likewise, there are 3.36 lakh FTTH voice service users. The company boasts 1 crore, 39 lakh, and 67 thousand 4G users.
Internet service
Till the end of Mangsir, 2080, Ntc has 2 crore, 15 lakh, 300 users. Out of this total, the company has 2 crore, 12 lakh, 41 thousand, and 800 GSM mobile data users. Likewise, there are 28 thousand, 700 ADSL users. At the same time, FTTH data has 2 lakh, 73 thousand, and 753 uses. During the same period, there are 35 thousand and 164 NT TV (IPTV) subscribers.
FTTH implementation
Nepal Telecom is actively working on extending the reach of its FTTH services across Nepal. So far, the company’s fiber service have become available in 74 districts.

Quality improvement
Under the directive from Communication Minister Rekha Sharma, network improvement work for Highway has been carried forward. Likewise, 19 model districts have been identified and implemented to improve Ntc services districts-wise.
Ntc CSR activities
- After the earthquake that struck Rukum East, Rukum West, and Jajarkot districts on Kartik 17, Nepal Telecom provided tents, blankets, and mattresses to the victims. Likewise, the company made available Ntc SIM for free for 5 days and also made its voice and SMS free. All these services were worth a total of Rs 3 crore.
- To promote greenery, the company has undertaken green conservation and beauty promotion works on the Maitighar-Tinkune road section.
- The company will establish ICT Labs in community schools.
- FTTH data/Namaste WiFi will be provided in government and community schools.
- Bed-Cum Chair will be provided at Bir Hospitals and other community hospitals for the caretakers of the patients.
Plans ahead
MD Pahadi said that there are challenges telecom companies face in Nepal. However, the company will seek to turn the challenges into opportunities for its long-term sustainability. In the coming days, the company will make its plans accordingly. Strategically important projects such as Mid-Hill Highway Optical Fiber, Data Center, training and research center, 4G expansion, 5G trial, digital marketing, new VAS, and model telecom service will be given top priority. All the highways will get better broadband coverage.
Likewise, FTTH service expansion will go ahead with more agility. iNOC will be better. The company will further improve its Managed Service works of its mobile service. RAN projects will get a push for implementation. Better High-Capacity SMS services will come into operation. The company vows to implement country-suitable and globally popular technologies in Nepal.
She said that various works are being done to make the Nepal Telecom fiber internet service more attractive. At the same time, she discussed the improvement work to carry forward the services and talked about the 19 model districts which aim at improving the district-wise network. Nepal Telecom Fiber Internet is now available in 74 districts of the country.
Stating that the company has provided various concessions for the earthquake-affected areas, Managing Director Pahadi said the company will establish ICT in various community schools. Likewise, the company will provide FTTH internet and Namaste WiFi services in government and community schools. She mentioned that the company will provide Bed-Cum Chair for caretakers at Bir Hospital and other community hospitals.
Ntc Chatbot to get an LLM AI upgrade
Pahadi said that on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, Ntc employees will reach the doorsteps of the customers and provide telecom services from Sundhara with the “Nepal Telecom on Wheel” program. This program will run nationwide. Similarly, the currently running Chatbot will get a Large Language Model (LLM) AI chatbot upgrade. It will first have a soft launch before its full version service rollout.

In the program, the sellers of the seven provinces who sold the most recharge cards of the company, the MPOS sellers, and the customers who paid the most revenue for the various services of the company were honored. In addition, the company honored the employees who completed 20 years of service in the company with Long Service Medals and certificates.
