In another reinforcement of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the Ncell Foundation successfully organized a free Cervical cancer screening in Birtamod Municipality, Ward-5, Jhapa. The project aligns with the private telco continuation of CSR activities in the field of public health and awareness campaigns.
The screening attracted the participation of 120 women from the local community while over 90 were able to benefit from the free Pap Smear test. The program, according to Ncell, aimed at raising awareness about Cervical concerns among women.
While Ncell keeps contributing to the communities with health practices, the Cervical cancer screening in Birtamod, Jhapa was the first of its kind under the Ncell Foundation.

Ncell Foundation hosted Cervical cancer screening in Birtamod, Jhapa for awareness and prevention purposes
The camp encouraged women to regularly get screening and tests to help detect signs of Cervical cancer at an early stage and prevent a worst-case scenario. Such events give people access to free medical screenings and learn about the possible symptoms, so they become extremely valuable in remote areas.
Shobha Thakur of Birtamod Municipality, Ward No. 5, was one of those to arrive for the test. She said, “I came here with my friends after learning about the Cervical Cancer Screening camp. My mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer in the third stage and passed away because she couldn’t talk openly about her health. If you have your health, you have your son, daughter, and the whole world with you.”
Likewise, Tika Gautam Koirala from Belbari-5, Morang, said, “This is a terrible disease that takes life. If you treat it in time, you can survive, so I came here to the camp when I got the chance. If you are aware, you can get rid of this disease, so this screening test is very important.”

More screenings across Koshi Province
While the event was the first under the Ncell Foundation, the telco has planned for more. The telco shares that it aims to conduct Cervical cancer screening of over 6,000 women in Koshi Province.
Bishakha Lakshmi Khadka, Head of Corporate Communications and CSR at Ncell, said, ” Our intent is to reach those who do not have access. Most of these deaths occurred in low- and lower-middle-income women due to inadequate access to Cervical cancer prevention, screening, and treatment. Statistics show that Cervical cancer is among the most common and a major cause of death among Nepali women. Over 80 percent of patients are diagnosed with ervical cancer at a late stage. Through our Ncell Foundation, we are committed to extending our efforts to other provinces following the success of this pilot project in Koshi Province.”
Cervical cancer remains one of the worst health concerns for Nepalese women claiming lives of over a thousand every year in recent years. Statistics have it that in 2022, 2,169 women had to go with a Cervical cancer diagnosis while 1,313 passed away due to it.
Ncell is carrying multiple social and community development projects across seven provinces as part of its broader CSR projects under the Ncell Foundation. Celebrating its 19th anniversary, the Foundation has planned a series of social activities at the grassroots level.
Ncell has contributed over Rs 2 billion in social projects relating to health, education, environment, sports, etc. since it began operation in Nepal.
