A mobile tower in Nepal with frequency band signal

Nepal’s leading telco, Ncell, has launched telecom services in the Lalbandi-Bardibas road section of the East-West Highway. The connectivity benefits the locals and passengers who traverse through this route considered sensitive from a security point of view.

Ncell users will no longer have to face network outage while they travel through the Lalbandi-Bardibas road section. The private telco has established a mobile network that covers 8 kilometers area on this route.

Prior to this, there was no mobile network coverage on this stretch. It’s the longest road section in the Madhesh Province and largely traverses through the forests, covering a distance of 21 kilometers.

Despite 4G extending across Nepal, many areas still remain out of service. Highways, forests, and remote areas across the country still have no access to telecom towers and reliable services. Therefore, locals, tourists, and travellers commonly face issues of network disruption.

Ncell brings connectivity to the Lalbandi-Bardibas road and more in the plan

After expanding the mobile network in the Lalbandi-Bardibas road section, Ncell plans to establish connectivity to more underserved areas.

Ncell has already begun a feasibility study to install and operate towers in additional locations to ensure network availability in the forest areas of the East-West Highway. It’s not convenient or immediately possible to install telecom infrastructure. Therefore, the telco is providing services through the network to launch the services in the Gadhanta and Laxminiya community forest area.

Division Forest Office (Mahottari), Gadhanta Sub-Division Forest Office, and Banke Sub-Division Office facilitated the establishment of mobile network services.

Recently, Ncell CEO Michael Foley stressed the need to improve 4G before 5G. It further emphasizes efforts needed to expand quality services across the country before pouring investment in 5G.

An experienced tech writer covering news mostly on telecommunication, internet, latest tech & trends, and Gadgets. Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
