Summary✨

  • Zum Rides’ ride-sharing service is starting with 200 smart bicycles in Kathmandu, offering an eco-friendly and trendy commuting option.
  • Users can unlock bikes via a mobile app that features smart docking, geofencing, and insurance for riders and cycles.
  • The service charges are based on time and tokens instead of distance, aiming to provide affordable travel.
  • Zum plans to expand to 5,000 cycles to meet the demand for eco-friendly mobility during a fuel crisis.
  • The unique offering of cycles sets Zum apart from existing ride-sharing apps like Pathao and inDrive.

How Zum ride-sharing electric cycles work in Kathmandu?

Zum’s smart bicycles operate with a mobile app. Users can scan the QR to unlock it and use it. It has features such as smart docking, geofencing, SOS safety support, etc. The company also provides insurance for both riders and cycles.

Do remember that you need to complete your KYC to use the service. Fascinatingly enough, when you click on QUICK KYC on Zum’s website, it gives you a QR code to scan via the Nagarik App. After scanning, the app uses your citizen profile and other details for verification.

According to Zum’s social media handles, it’s starting the service soon. But that’s just it with further information for now. Expectedly, it’s sooner than later.

Zum cycles ride-sharing price

Zum’s ride-sharing on smart cycles is expected to be cheaper than existing fares on top ride-sharing apps. The market is dominated by Pathao, inDrive, Yango, etc. But Zum offers cycles, not motorbikes and taxis for mobility. Therefore, the company may focus on making it affordable right from the launch. It’s said that the fare will be charged on a time-based token system instead of per-kilometer fees.

Going forward, the company plans to expand up to 5,000 cycles. The company has highlighted a need to reduce fuel consumption amidst the ongoing fuel crisis and a modern approach to eco-friendly mobility with its soon-to-launch ride-sharing service. In the first phase, the service will be available inside the Ring Road from morning to night.

Zum’s smart cycles will be great for people who need to explore around the city over short distances. It’s going to be trendy and unique for Nepal’s ride-sharing industry. Let’s see how it unfolds.
