MediaTek Dimensity 9400 main features:
- All-Big Core design
- 40% more power efficiency compared to the predecessor
- 40% faster raytracing
- Support for latest 5G standards and tri-band WiFi 7, etc.
MediaTek has launched Android’s first ever 3nm chipset Dimensity 9400 which boasts 40% power efficiency over the previous flagship chipset. Equipped with “All Big Core”, the SoC will power many flagship Android phones later in 2024. Here, we talk about the chipset’s key features, smartphones using this hardware, and other relevant details.
Starting with, launching the Dimensity 9400, MediaTek is replacing its predecessor Dimensity 9300 but also set the record straight against Qualcomm as it’s the first 3 nm chipset in the Android sphere.
MediaTek brings 3nm Android chipset in Dimensity 9400 ahead of Qualcomm
Talking about the industry first, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 flagship chipset is built using TSMS’s 2nd-generation 3nm process also called N3E. And in a milestone, it’s come ahead of its major competitor Qualcomm. The US-based company’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is built in a 4 nm process but could unveil its own 3nm hardware later in October 2024 in Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
But across the aisle, Apple brought its 3nm hardware a year ago in A17 Pro. This year, the US brand continued with the latest A18 silicon for its iPhone 16 Series.
MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Key Features
An All-Big Core Design
The Dimensity 9400 is powered by MediaTek’s 2nd-generation All Big Core design with further improvement. This time, the processor runs Arm Cortex-X925 which betters single-threaded performance with a 15% IPC increase over previous Cortex-X. The Arm Cortex-X925 clocks at 3.62 GHz. MediaTek claims that it can deliver performances 35% faster in single-core and 28% in multi-core operations.
To be more specific, the chipset consists of one prime Cortex-X925 core at 3.62 GHz, three other Cortex-X4 cores, and four other Cortex-A720 cores in 1+3+4 architecture. MediaTek maintains that this unconventional processor design delivers a balance of peak power and energy efficiency.
The chipset is also claimed to deliver more performance per milliwatt than ever before and is 40% more power efficient.
Also, it is the world’s only 5G smartphone chip that offers the latest Armv9.2 CPU advantage enabling the most advanced CPU technologies.
Unprecedented gaming
The chipset is one powerhouse for the gaming experience. Paired with Immortalis G-925 GPU, users can expect up to 41% faster peak performance, 40% faster raytracing, and 44% more power efficiency. The GPU provides next-level smooth gaming and visual effects culminating in unprecedented gaming experience.
The gaming is further aided by MediaTek’s HyperEngine gaming technology Adaptive Gaming Technology 3.0. The technology smoothens gaming by controlling performance and sustaining FPS thus removing the chance of overheating. Likewise, the HyperEngine’s Super Resolution further extends power saving while also providing immersive picture quality.
More AI power
The Dimensity 9400 chipset is equipped with MediaTek’s 8th generation NPU that increases Agent AI for new waves of Artificial Intelligence features for smartphone OEMs. The company says that the new chipset is the world’s 1st Agentic AI engine for developers and also the first to enable high-quality on-device video generation.
The NPU is said to raise the bar for flagship phones with record-breaking performance in AI and generative AI benchmarks. The chipset excels with ETHZ v6, 100% faster diffusion generation, 80% faster LLM prompt performance, and up to 35% more power efficiency.
Pro-level zooming capacity
The chipset pioneers HDR video capture for the entire zoom range available only in professional camera zoom lenses. With the Gen-AI Super Zoom feature, the chipset allows for 100x magnification with clear details. Also, smartphone users can record videos in 4K60 for three hours with up to 14% more power efficiency.

Connectivity support for 5G modem, tri-band WiFi 7
The Dimensity 9400 supports the latest 5G standard which also translates to incredible average speeds and reliability. The chipset supports 4CC-CA up to 7 Gbps data rate in sub-6 GHz frequency and the UltraSave 4.0 means over 18% power saving in 5G connection. Users will also get dual SIM dual active features in 5G and 4G with this chipset on their devices.
Considering the fast evolution of WiFi 7, MediaTek has also brought some noticeable features to the next-generation WiFi standard. The chipset supports WiFi 7 communication in tri-band – 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, 6GHz simultaneously. In terms of data rates, it can provide up to 7.3 Gbps data rate. Even hotspot power efficiency has improved with 50% power saving while a WiFi hotspot is activated.
Which smartphones will use MediaTek Dimensity 9400?
The first smartphones to use MediaTek Dimensity 9400 will be the vivo X200 Series and Oppo Find X8. Of course, more flagship phones will be using this high-end chipset over time and we are only excited to see how the industry evolves now as Android finally kicks off 3nm processing.
Our verdict
3nm chipsets are finally becoming a reality for Android. So far, high-end Android phones can only use 4nm silicon but thanks to MediaTek and Qualcomm soon, premium Android phones from Samsung, vivo, Xiaomi, realme, etc. will also have more powerful processing power phones with 3nm hardware.
If you are into smartphone specs, you will notice the chipset build process. The lesser number such as 4 nm or 3 nm translates to more transistors on the processor meaning more power. So, manufacturers are always looking forward to developing more capable chipsets that could hold more transistors for higher performance and efficiency. Apple has done it with A17 and A18 chipsets and it’s beginning with MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400.
