Next year’s iPhone 15 series will arrive with USB C, Apple has confirmed. The US phone maker finally decided to ditch its signature lightning port after the EU passed the legislation requiring all devices to use the same ports. EU has made it mandatory that all phones in the region have a USB Type-C port by 2024.
Despite speculation, iPhone 14, launched back in September doesn’t come with USB C ports but its successor could mark a new and perhaps a very significant step for future iPhone models.
The decision is not voluntary for the Cupertino giant though as it’s going to lose its distinguishing feature from its competitor, Android. The EU law has forced Apple to let go of its iconic lightning ports. The trillion-dollar tech leader had no choice. It is now very likely that all future Apple products will sport USB Type-C ports in Europe.

“Obviously, we’ll have to comply; we have no choice,” said Greg Joswiak, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Marketing at Apple Inc., “the Europeans are the ones dictating timing for European customers,” he added. As the European Union demands, “all mobile phones and tablets” must include USB-C by “autumn 2024.”
But while it is almost certain that the iPhone 15 handsets will arrive in Europe with a Type-C port, it’s not yet confirmed whether the devices outside the zone will get the same port. Joswiak expressed his displeasure regarding the legislation and claimed that replacing the lightning port with a USB C port would result in a huge generation of e-waste.

iPhone 15 coming with a USB C port will please users
The news that the iPhone 15 will come with a universal USB C port could please many. So far, iPhone users couldn’t have had the convenience of using another charger due to its incompatible lightning port. While USB-Type C has become the default and standard port across all Android smartphones, Apple has long opted to stick with its own.
Xiaomi, Samsung, and virtually all other Android-powered phones come with USB Type-C ports.

The adoption of USB C will make for universally compatible charging cables, SSDs, and other accessories. Besides, finding and buying a USB-C cable is far easier than getting the other one. Apple is also facing declining with its latest iPhone series and reportedly it’s cutting down iPhone 14 Plus production due to less demand but a much-desired USB C could also help it boost its prospect among users.
Apple already integrates iPads with USB C such as Apple iPad Air 5 2022 and next, and iPhones will also begin their transition next year.
