State-backed telecom operator Nepal Telecom or shortly Ntc has begun a 4G network along with GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) mobile service in Kimanthanka. It is the first time the company has launched a high-speed broadband network and voice service in the remote area of Sankhuwasabha, Koshi province.
Ntc’s mobile service began in Kimathanka, the Northern side of Bhotkhola, a border region of China from Monday, July 24. Before this, the locals only had access to CDMA (Code-Division Multiple Access) services which can offer only 2G and 3G services. Plus, they were using Chinese SIM cards for communication services.
Now, with 4G service, the residents have got high-speed mobile internet as well as voice service with 2G. Prem Kumar Rai, Chief of Ntc Office, Khandbari, said that the locals have been delighted after Ntc launched its GSM mobile service with 4G in Kimanthanka. Kimanthanka lies in Bhotkgola Rural Municipality of Sankhuwasabha district lying at 2,476 meters from sea level. It is also one of the most remote parts of the mountainous region. So, it poses great difficulty to establish communication services of any form. It’s a bleak reflection of many parts of the Northern area in Nepal too.

Ntc brought 4G in Kimanthanka 20 years after Khandbari got its own
The headquarters of Khandbari got its telecom service two decades ago but impeded the same for a small village area of Kimanthanka. Anyway, thanks to Nepal Telecom’s expansion efforts and its priority on service than profit, the remote area has finally got its mobile services. The telco uses helicopters to transport telco gears in such remote regions which faces challenges in regular road transports.
GSM service has not only brought to them 4G internet but will also let them discard Chinese SIM cards which may not be good for safety and security reasons too.
