Nepal’s leading private telecommunication giant Ncell has conferred its coveted “Ncell Scholarship and Excellence Awards 2023” to the outstanding students from five different faculties of the Institute of Engineering (IoE), Pulchowk Campus on Friday (January 26). This is one of Ncell’s long-standing CSR programs in the area of education. The latest occasion marked the 10th year of the Ncell Scholarship and Excellence Awards.
Ncell conferred the scholarship and excellence awards in five faculties- Civil, Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Computer, and Mechanical Engineering. The telco presented the honors to the students at a special event held at Ncell ICON, Lainchaur, Kathmandu amidst the faculty of the IoE and family members of the students.
This year (from 2023), 18 Ncell Scholarships were presented to the topper students from 1st year, 2nd year, and 3rd year. Likewise, 6 students who graduated from five faculties with the highest marks also received the Ncell Excellence Awards.
Prof. Dr. Shashidhar Joshi, Dean of IoE, and Jabbor Kayumov, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Ncell conferred the Excellence awards to the standout students from IoE. Similarly, Ncell’s Extended Management Team Members — Chief Regulatory and Legal Officer Vishal Upadhyaya, Chief Commercial Officer Umair Mohsin, and Acting Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Lena Keshari Kansakar handed over Ncell Scholarships to the students.
Inspiring the students to do their best
Addressing the Ncell Scholarship and Excellence Awards handover program, Jabbor Kayumov, CEO and MD of Ncell said, “At Ncell, we are humbly honored to be driving this recognition that will inspire every young person and student to continue doing their best. “Personally, I remember 20 years ago when I got the scholarship for my achievements that have helped me to become who I am today. I also take this opportunity to thank the IoE for their relentless efforts put forth by the team for developing and shaping the talents for the future of our society,” he added.

Prof. Dr. Shashidhar R Joshi expresses delight

Ncell offered a token of love for its support
On the same occasion, Prof. Dr. Joshi also felicitated Ncell with a token of appreciation for providing generous support on building excellence through Ncell Scholarships and Excellence Awards to students for 10 consecutive years at Pulchowk Campus.
Bibek Khanal who received the Ncell Scholarships twice previously, and the Ncell Excellence Awards this year for graduating as the topper student in Bachelor of Electrical Engineering expressed his enthusiasm. He said, “This award is the result of my hard work and academic excellence. This is a financial support but what is more important is that this is indeed a great recognition that motivates students to do much better. I thank you Ncell and IOE for this collaboration.”
“It’s great that Ncell has contributed to the education sector. I feel proud to receive this recognition, which was always one of the major motivating factors for me. Being a student, we do not have that financial liberty from family, and this scholarship amount can also be utilized for investment to help for further education so thank you Ncell,” said Benzeena Dhakal from the Mechanical Engineering faculty of Pulchowk Campus, one of the Ncell Scholarships recipients.
The Ncell scholarships and excellence awards started in 2014. The objective of the program is to encourage technical education and honor the best talents. The students with extraordinary academic excellence receive the Ncell scholarships and excellence awards. Customarily, Ncell provides scholarships on the basis of students’ annual scores of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year.

Ncell Scholarship and Excellence Awards 2023
From 2023, the Ncell Scholarship receivers are the 3 toppers of the 18 scholarship receivers including 3 toppers of 1st year, 2nd year, and 3rd year from Civil, Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Computer, and Mechanical Engineering faculty. Likewise, 3 female toppers from 1st year, 2nd year, and 3rd year among all female students of these five faculties also received the award.
Further, the students graduating with top scores from each of these five faculties and a female student graduating with top scores among all female students of the five faculties also received recognition with the Ncell Excellence Awards. Both scholarships and excellence awards are worth Rs. 100,000 each.

With this scholarship and Excellence Award, Ncell is expressing its commitment to not just business but also its social responsibility. Since its inception, the telco has acted as a lawful digital enterprise and contributed to Nepal and the government significantly with CSR projects and revenues. Among its other notable services remain the collaboration with Dhulikhel Hospital to revolutionize telemedicine in Nepal. Despite Axiata exiting Nepal, Ncell promises strong service delivery and continuation of its commitments in Nepal.
