The Government of Nepal which has the majority of shares in Nepal Telecom (NTC) generated over Rs 6.58 billion in dividends in the last Fiscal Year FY 2079/80. The stats manage to offer a positive glimpse into the company’s financial aspects despite falling financial graph in recent fiscal years.

The government earns big in dividends from Nepal Telecom in FY 2079/80
The report comes from the Finance Minister’s Economic Survey report for FY 2080/81. The report highlights that the government raked in Rs 6 billion, 58 crore, and 77 lakh in dividends from the telecom giant in FY 2079/80. Similarly, the company had issued Rs 40 per share in cash dividends to the public in the same fiscal year.
The company posted a profit of Rs 7.80 billion in FY 2079/80. According to the same report, the company’s accumulated revenue was forty-two billion six hundred forty million seventy-four thousand. The company has a total paid-up capital of Rs one hundred eighty billion. Its net worth is Rs 93 billion and 945 million. By the end of Ashar 2080, the market capitalization of Nepal Telecom increased by 3.19% to over Rs 16.32 trillion.
The company started as Nepal Telecommunication Corporation in 2032 BS. However, it went public on Baisakh 01, 2061, and was renamed Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NDCL). After going public, the company floated a portion of ownership to the public. To illustrate, the government owns 91.49% of shares in the company while the general public has 8.48% of shares. Likewise, Nagarik Lagani Kosh (Citizens Investment Trust) owns a 0.03% share in the telecom company.

Nepal Telecom continues to serve with employment for thousands of Nepalese
Being the largest telecom service provider, Nepal Telecom has also been an elite employment provider. As per the report, the company has 3,875 employees working on a permanent basis while 55 are serving on contracts.
The report mentions that the company has over 20.39 million mobile subscribers using its advanced voice and 4G broadband users. Likewise, the company also provides FTTH fiber internet, NT TV (IPTV), VoLTE, and many other telecom services. Ntc also provides eSIM service if you were not aware.
