Apple’s latest tablet iPad mini 7 is now available in Nepal. The tablet features the A17 pro chipset which qualifies it for Apple Intelligence, and sports an 8.3-inch display among key specs. Here, we take a closer look at the specifications, features, and official price of the iPad mini 7 in Nepal.
Let’s not forget that the tablet has been launched after three years since the iPad Mini 6 in 2021. The iPhone 16 series is pretty hefty in costs so this device is going to be your cheapest way to get the hot Apple Intelligence features. More on the price thing down below. But, here let’s start with its other key details and how it stands up to the iPad Mini 6.
iPad Mini 7 (2024) Specifications
Design and Display
Apple hasn’t changed much in design for the iPad Mini 7 from its predecessor. Its dimensions also remain the same as the previous iPad mini at 195.4 x 134.8 x 6.3 mm. The body of the tablet is made of glass in the front while frames and back use aluminum. The device weighs 293 grams for the WiFi-only variant while its WiFi + cellular sibling is 297 grams. It also comes with support for Apple Pencil and Apple Pencil Pro.
The display also remains largely the same. It’s got an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina LCD display. Likewise, Apple has given continuity of the 60 Hz refresh rate here just like on the iPhone 16 base models. The screen’s resolution is 1488 x 2266 pixels and reaches 500 nits in brightness. The bezels are there so the real estate of the tablet stands at 77.4% screen-to-body ratio. Overall, the device is one of the smallest tablets from Apple. So, it’s easy to carry around in hand or in a bag.

Performance
For this tablet, Apple has opted for the decent A17 Pro chipset which was launched only in September 2023. The chipset is respectable given that the tablet is more affordable than iPhones. This 3 nm processor sports a hexa-core processing which is powerful enough to deliver satisfying performance. For comparison, the iPad Mini 6 (2021) used an A15 Bionic processor in the iPad Mini 6.
The best part of the A17 Pro processor is that it’s fully compatible with the Apple Intelligence features which is a key selling point for Apple currently. However, there’s one downside. The iPad Mini 7’s A17 Pro chipset comes with a 5-core GPU rather than the 6-core GPU we saw in the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Anyway, it’s a less concerning aspect that may go unnoticed by users. Apple has also incorporated hardware-accelerated ray tracing which improves ray tracing calculations and results in better visual effects.
A17 Pro provides 30% boost in CPU performance and 25% improvement in graphics tasks with a 5-core GPU.
Likewise, Apple is likely using 8 GB RAM for the tablet which is a big improvement from the iPad Mini 6. At the same time, Apple is offering the tablet with 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB options. From the software perspective, it ships with iPadOS 18 which supports Apple AI features that iPad Mini 6 can’t.
Camera
Tablets are not designed with a camera in focus but Apple has still managed to install decent specs for the optics in the iPad Mini 6. Its back panel features a 12 MP main wide camera with an ƒ/1.8 aperture. While it seems identical to the iPad Mini 6, Apple says that it’s upgraded the sensor and there’s support for Smart HDR 4. Likewise, the camera can record videos at 4K resolution in 24, 25, 30, or 60 fps. Likewise, the slo-mo feature is also available which is a popular camera mode among enthusiasts.
The front has a 12 MP ultrawide camera with an ƒ/2.4 aperture which is not the best in the world but fairly good for its utility.
Battery and Connectivity
The iPad Mini 7 features a Li-Ion 5078 mAh battery and Apple says that it provides 10 hours of life on surfing the web on WiFi or watching videos.
Unlike the iPad Mini 6, the iPad Mini 7 can connect to WiFi 6e standard which is a major break away from the previous generation WiFi technologies. It also features Bluetooth 5.3, USB Type C 3.1 with up to 10 Gbps speed, etc. As for the WiFi + cellular model, it connects to the 5G network which is another next-generation standard in mobile technology but this variant is not launched in Nepal at least so far.
AI features in the iPad Mini 7
The iPad Mini 7 gets many exciting artificial intelligence (AI) features with a free update for the iPadOS 18.1 later. The exciting haul of features includes writing tools that help with proofreading and summarizing Mail, Notes, and anything users write anywhere including on third-party apps. Likewise, the AI will further enhance the usability of Siri, Apple’s voice assistant that is getting a new design with an “elegant glowing light around the edges of the screen when active”. With Apple Intelligence, Siri gets a higher understanding of languages, and interaction with it will become more natural and human-like.
Similarly, Memories lets users create videos by simply typing a description of it while the Clean Up tool allows users to identify and remove certain objects from the background of a photo. There are other features such as Image Wand, Genmoji, ChatGPT integration, etc. coming to iPad Mini 7 with iPadOS 18.1.

Our Verdict
The iPad Mini 7 (2024) is an evolution rather than a revolution from Apple. The American brand has afforded it some noticeable upgrades in chipset and RAM while barely making any substantial changes to the design and display. Anyway, it’s a light tablet and comes with WiFi 6e support though, some would be eager for a cellular variant too. The best part of it is the use of the A17 Pro chipset which means it’s compatible with Apple Intelligence. Therefore, if you want an affordable Apple device with a large screen, well this could be your bet.
IPads hold different esteem among tablets and are generally considered a decent substitute for a laptop for creativity and work. So, if you were waiting on one, this one is an upgrade worthy of your money. Or, you may also want to wait on Xiaomi’s upcoming Pad 7 as well.
