Leading Payment System Provider (PSP) Khalti has integrated NEPALPAY QR into its app which now allows users to perform digital payments at over 3 lakh merchants across Nepal. At the same time, Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL) which owns NEPALPAY QR has signed a cross-border deal with Nepal Payments Corporation of India (NCPI) to speed up cross-border payment services for Khalti users.
With the deal, Khalti users are now able to scan & pay at NEPALPAY QR merchants at restaurants, cinemas, shops, malls, etc. Currently, over 3 lakh merchants are using NEPAL PAY QR for digital payment services.
NEPAL PAY QR is an interoperable QR-based payment network operated by NCHL. Many banks and financial institutions have incorporated NEPAL PAY QR to allow smartphone users to make mobile payments over the Internet. With Khalti integration which is one of the prominent digital wallets in Nepal, it will now be accessible to over 3.2 million Khalti app users broadly expanding its reach.
With the addition of NEPAL PAY QR, Khalti users now have access to five different QR platforms. Currently, the list includes FonePay, Smart QR, Union Pay, Daaami QR, and the just incorporated NEPALPAY QR.

Following the partnership deal, Khalti Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Binay Khadka shared his excitement about the prospect. He stated, “Khalti’s QR payment has been one of the most convenient services to our users. Hence, with this partnership, we aim to enable existing and upcoming Khalti users to enjoy seamless payments with NEPALPAY QR on top of existing FonePay and Union Pay QR.”
NEPAL PAY QR also shared its own delight about the Khalti partnership deal. “NEPALPAY QR is an implementing infrastructure of NepalQR for establishing a domestic QR scheme and interoperability within the players, which is available and accessible to all BFIs, PSPs, and PSOs in Nepal. Collaboration with one of the prominent PSPs and activation of NEPALPAY QR in Khalti is a major milestone that is expected to accelerate the growth of QR payments in Nepal,” it said in a statement.

NCHL signs a deal to accelerate cross-border Nepal-India payment
At the same time, NCHL has signed a deal with Nepal Payments Corporation of India (NCPI) to speed up the launch of the much-anticipated cross-border payment service. The signing took place in the presence of the honorable Prime Minister of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”. Now, the Nepal-India digital payment service could launch soon which will facilitate Khalti users to make mobile payments from many parts of India.
